Wrapped in Pride

In Africa the women have a great craft in weaving and braiding.The Kente cloth has became a popular and traditional form of fabric and pattern not only in Africa but around the world.

The Kente cloth was made by the Ashanti and Ewe people and is best known of all textiles. Kente comes from the word kenten which means baskets or woven cloth. Historically the Kente cloth was the cloth for kings. It is worn for celebrations, like evening gowns and tuxedos that we are familiar with. It brings honor and prestige to the ceremonies. Kente is made of multiple woven strips of bright and various colors. This is usually done by the men of the Ashanti people. The Kente cloth has take several forms into hats, ties, bags and other accessories. It is a fabric that is shared throughout several continents.
